A Message from Our President
Welcome to the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 Foundation website! Formed as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization in 2012, the foundation's exclusive purpose is to support the educational activities of Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35.
The idea of a foundation came about after a successful fundraising event to establish the Excellence in Education Recognition Banquet. The then superintendent of schools Rodney Rich, wanted to establish this event to honor students who were highly performing academically—the top 5% of our graduating class. In addition, the goal was to demonstrate the importance of the teacher to student relationships. This idea caught on with the community. The banquet would become the first activity for a new foundation that would use initially raised funds to honor students and teachers, and begin to focus on our stated purpose—to support the educational activities of Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35.
In 2013, the second year of the Excellence in Education Recognition Banquet we began giving a $500 scholarship to each student in the top 5% of the graduating class. We have continued to provide that level of support at recent banquets and hope to raise that amount of money in the future.
We have expanded scholarship support to a deserving Career and Technical Education student. In addition, thanks to the support from the Benchmark Foundation of Tubac, we will be providing money to at least one teacher in order to enhance his/her professional skills and knowledge.
We are very proud of our accomplishments so far but feel the need to do more. I hope this website provides you with the information you need related to our foundation and that it will inspire you to assist us in our efforts to support outstanding students and educators as well as to enhance other future needs of the school district.
Sincerely,
Karen Woodford
